I’ve decided to meet up with 5-6 IDs to get a feel of quotations as well as decide on one:-
Studio FortyFour (price damn steep T_T)
ROOOT studio (1st meetup done!)
The Local Innterior (Jade Cham)
Friend’s recommendation (her friend)
Mogu’s owner’s ID
Meetup with Alex from ROOOT
It was a special meetup. No usual boring ID questions like ‘you want feature wall? What color?’ etc. Like SFF, #ROOOT designs the home to be personalised to the couple/homeowner, with questionnaires on our hobbies, personalities, flashcard exercises to pick out what we like and dislike, and they really focus on our needs.
I like this whole personalisation thing cos I have no idea what to do with my house at all, I only have some inspiration. In this sense, I value the fact that I’ll give the IDs freedom to design, but they must align with KA and I’s likes and dislikes as well as the place must suit our everyday/lifestyle needs.
Some indispensable things we do note to the ID, like we want a navy blue themed kitchen, with white and gold or wood accents. A platform bed for our room. The one particular corner of the house to be covered by carpentry. Shower screens in both bathrooms.
Alex’s design is definitely one I look forward to, because he asked so much about KA and I. We will meet him again Mid-March.
I’m meeting #Mogu’s owner’s ID on 28 feb, and SFF on 19 March (yes they are so packed now, it’s hard to get an appointment soon with them)!
#SFF goes through a few meetups before a preliminary quotation is given, so with them, renovation will not start soon, but that’s OK given the fact that we don’t intend to move in immediately.
I’ve been following them for a while and loved the house they did for Cotton’s furfriend on IG back in 2018 Feb. I always told myself if I get a house, I will look for them but their hefty pricetag has me shaking - with a min of 65K for most projects, and someone on Dayre being quoted 90K.
#DAPatelier did up a 2020 BTB’s house and it was rly nice!!! But the bride had good design ideas and she knew what she want (sort of) whereas I’m totally lost. Hahahahaha. When she met DAP, it was only the female main ID, but when Mogu’s owner met her recently, she had a ‘apprentice (of sorts)’ with her which made her feel that he was very judgey. He would say stuff like ‘like this so weird leh’ etc, and Mogu’s owner did not proceed w them. However, I will still meet with them!
Sheryl recommended her to me and I loved her IG portfolio (of sorts)! Not sure what to expect from a meetup with her but definitely excited to!
We’re hoping for renovation to be done by this year so we can fully focus on our wedding next year. It’s in October so we have abt 10 months into 2020 to do more preparation/last min stuff, and now there’s not much to be done with all the big ticket items somewhat settled. Vendors aren’t open yet for all the other things. So now, we will pay more attention to renovation and our future home. #KJlovenest #happitat

We’re meeting Jade from The Local Innterior today! Hoping it goes well and she grasps the concept of what we like etc. I rly have no design in mind so hoping she can pick up our likes and dislikes and suggest something good for us!
Rethinking our renovation budget and being more firm on it not crossing a certain amount. No matter how tempted we are, budget is priority!

Managed to get off work early to avoid the jam and grab dinner before the meeting, but looking at things... we are lucky if we can even eat some takoyaki from the pasarmalam. Lol. Daphne from DAP Atelier is meeting us at 6.45pm!
Yesterday, we met an ID too, and I will review them both together tonight when I am nestled in bed. Haha. Can think more clearly. But yesterday was very different from ROOOT. Ystd was rly design on the spot, like taking orders - they don’t care what your hobbies are.
And that’s v normal la. It’s just ROOOT and Studio FortyFour and design-centric firms like them who care more abt the owners, and will offer proposals based on owners’ preferred theme, lifestyle, littlest habits and hobbies.
I find their designs more unique and more personalised, but of course they come with a premium. Their prices are higher than usual. However, the other IDs are also good especially if you are clear about certain things you want. Right now KA and I are a blank canvas apart from the fact that we have an idea of basic carpentry we want, colors etc, which is why we rely on a good ID. To help us think out of the box.

Meeting ROOOT studio tonight.
Quite excited cos ROOOT’s questions for us were very special and different, and they have so much confidence in surprising us!! If their quote isn’t waaaaay over our budget, I think we might just go for them! #KJlovenest
WE. FREAKING. LOVE. ROOOT.
I CAN’T EVEN PUT INTO WORDS HOW MUCH WE LOVE IT. T_T

Still thinking of the design Alex from ROOOT showed us last night 😂😂😂
I have no photos at all so I can’t explain. All I can say is he completely transformed our space and it’s very clear and apparent he thought of us and Cotton when designing and planning.
We’re gonna confirm with ROOOT studio.
